A Drip Edge on a Roof Has Two Key Purposes

1. Direct Water Away from Fascia

Prevents rainwater from running down the fascia board and underlying wood, avoiding rot and long-term structural moisture damage.

2. Protect from Wind-Driven Rain

Acts as an impenetrable shield that blocks gusty winds from pushing driving rain underneath the shingles and roof deck.

How to Install the Drip Edge

Step 01
Install Drip Edge Over Furring Strip

Install the drip edge over the furring strip. Always install it on the eaves first.

Step 02
Align Drip Edge with Gutters

Place the drip edge down, aligning it accurately so water will drip cleanly into the gutters.

Step 03
Secure Drip Edge with Roofing Nails

Use roofing nails to securely fasten the drip edge onto the roof deck.

Step 04
Cut Corner at Eave and Rake Edge

When you reach a corner where an eave and rake edge meet, make a proper cut to ensure an exact fit.

Step 05
Install Drip Edge Along Rake Edge

Install the remaining drip edge as normal along the designated edge line.

Step 06
Install Roofing Underlayment

Once you’ve covered the eaves with the drip edge, it’s time to install your underlayment properly.

Drip Edge Material Types

1. Aluminum

A common material for drip edges. While aluminum isn’t as strong as steel, it provides superior anti-corrosion properties and does not rust. It is often supplied in a wide array of painted colors to match the aesthetic of any home exterior.

2. Galvanized Steel

Drip edges are designed to be in direct, continuous contact with water; steel drip edges are galvanized to reliably prevent rust. A minimum 26-gauge steel is preferable so that the drip edge can easily withstand strong winds and harsh weather.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1 What are the primary functions of installing a roofing drip edge?

A drip edge serves two vital protective functions: it directs water flow directly into gutters and away from the vulnerable fascia board, and it shields under-roof structures from moisture driven by high winds.

Q2 Which material is best suited: Aluminum or Galvanized Steel?

Aluminum offers complete rust immunity and matches exterior trim colors seamlessly. Galvanized steel (minimum 26-gauge) provides superior structural strength and wind-load resistance in extreme weather conditions.

Q3 Can dimensions, lengths, and colors be customized?

Yes. We provide standard lengths of 10ft and 12ft with thicknesses of 0.015-0.018 inch, but width, thickness, profile angles (such as 90-degree, FHA, F5, F8), and colors can be custom fabricated to your specifications.

Q4 Should the drip edge be installed under or over the roof underlayment?

Along the eaves, the drip edge is installed directly over the wood deck/furring strip before laying the underlayment. Along the rakes (gables), the drip edge goes on top of the underlayment.

Q5 How are products packaged for international sea freight?

Products are bundled 25 pieces per carton and palletized on reinforced steel pallets (24 cartons/pallet), securely wrapped in protective steel sheets and banded vertically and transversely with steel strapping.

Q6 What is the average lead time for wholesale orders?

With over 50 dedicated production lines, our standard manufacturing and dispatch lead time is normally within 20 to 30 days following order confirmation.
