Rockwool Insulated Panels: Technical Engineering & Procurement Masterclass

In high-hazard industrial environments, modern commercial developments, and strict Civil Defense jurisdictions across the Middle East and Africa, envelope specification requires absolute non-combustibility and structural integrity. Rockwool Insulated Panels (mineral wool sandwich panels) represent the apex standard for passive fire protection, acoustic attenuation, and thermal performance.

Engineered at our state-of-the-art facility in Muscat, Oman, Emaar Industries combines continuous high-density stone wool lamination with structural roll-formed steel. Operating at a daily capacity of 10,000 m² and backed by 550+ successful GCC and African project deliveries, we provide EPC contractors and structural consultants with verified technical documentation, shorter procurement lead times, and extreme environmental durability against 50 °C+ ambient temperatures and coastal salinity.

Information Gain & Physics

The Material Science of Rockwool Core Physics

Understanding the thermomechanical dynamics of mineral wool insulated panels enables consultants to specify optimized thicknesses, fiber orientations, and metal gauge profiles.

Lamella Core Fiber Orientation

Unlike loose mineral wool, panel cores utilize sliced lamellas turned 90 degrees. Vertically oriented basalt fibers distribute mechanical loads perpendicular to steel facings, optimizing shear strength and span capability up to 6+ meters without sagging.

Zero Smoke & Zero Toxic Gas

Organic foam cores (PUR/PIR/EPS) undergo thermal decomposition, releasing toxic fumes and dense smoke during fires. Rockwool binder composition ensures Class A1 non-combustibility, generating zero toxic emissions and preserving escape corridor visibility.

Thermomechanical Dimensional Stability

With an extremely low linear thermal expansion coefficient (α ≈ 0.000005/K), Rockwool panels eliminate skin blistering, joint opening, and thermal bridging caused by 40 °C ambient day-to-night temperature fluctuations in desert climates.

Open-Cell Acoustic Damping

The intricate open-pore fibrous structure converts acoustic wave kinetic energy into friction thermal energy. Standard panels achieve Rw 30–34 dB, serving as effective acoustic barriers for noisy power stations and manufacturing bays.

Emaar Rockwool sandwich panels feature non-combustible Class A1 stone wool cores that deliver fire resistance ratings from EI30 up to EI240 (4 hours) under EN 13501-2, BS 476 Part 22, and ASTM E119 testing standards, depending on panel thickness (50 mm to 200 mm) and structural joint detailing.

Rockwool provides non-combustible fire protection (melting point > 1000 °C) and superior sound reduction (Rw up to 34 dB), whereas PIR and PUR offer lower thermal conductivity (λ ≈ 0.022 W/m·K) per unit thickness. Rockwool is specified where Civil Defense fire barriers and acoustic control are mandatory.

For load-bearing external wall applications and wind uplift resistance across wide purlin spans, a high-density core of 100 kg/m³ to 140 kg/m³ with vertically oriented basalt fibers is engineered to provide shear strength, dimensional stability, and flexural rigidity.

Our Rockwool cores are treated with hydrophobic silicone additives during fiber spinning, limiting water absorption to < 1.0 kg/m². Additionally, precision continuous male-female double tongue-and-groove jointing with factory-applied butyl sealants prevents vapor migration.

Standard solid-skin Rockwool panels achieve sound reduction index ratings of Rw 30–34 dB. Micro-perforated acoustic interior face sheets combined with tissue-wrapped mineral wool achieve Noise Reduction Coefficients (NRC) up to 0.90.

Panels are roll-formed using Aluzinc/Galvanized structural steel (275 g/m² zinc coating) with protective paint finishes including Polyester, Super Durable Polyester (SDR), PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) 25/50 microns, or Polyurethane-Polyamide (HDP) for high-salinity and high-UV exposure.
