Structural Cold-Rolled Systems

Engineered Composite Steel Decking for Concrete Floors

Emaar Industries manufactures precision roll-formed composite steel decking profiles at our modern Muscat production facility. Engineered to serve as permanent stay-in-place formwork during the wet concrete phase and as structural positive tensile reinforcement once the concrete cures, our metal decking sheets significantly accelerate multi-story building timelines.

By eliminating the time and costs associated with traditional timber shuttering and temporary propping systems, our decking profiles provide an immediate safe working platform, reduce structural concrete dead loads, and deliver documented shear interlock performance certified to BS 5950, Eurocode 4, and ASTM standards across GCC commercial and industrial projects.

Standard Profiles for Floor Slab Engineering

Emaar Industries produces two market-leading trapezoidal composite decking profiles designed to match architectural floor slab depths, construction-phase unpropped spans, and heavy live load requirements.

Standard Profile 45/150 mm composite steel decking sheet cross section

45/150 mm Composite Decking Sheet

The 45/150 mm profile is engineered with a 45 mm rib height and 150 mm pitch, providing optimal structural efficiency for shallow concrete floor slabs, commercial multi-story developments, light-gauge steel construction, and residential floor mezzanines.

Its compact profile height minimizes concrete volume requirements, significantly lowering building dead load and foundation design costs while offering quick site handling and dependable shear embossment interlocking.

Profile Depth 45 mm
Pitch Spacing 150 mm
Cover Width 750 mm / 900 mm
Thickness Range 0.70 mm – 1.20 mm
Heavy-Duty Profile 75/300 mm deep composite steel floor decking sheet

75/300 mm Deep Decking Sheet

The 75/300 mm deep profile features a robust 75 mm rib depth and 300 mm pitch. It is specifically developed for long unpropped construction spans, heavy industrial mezzanines, logistics warehouses, parking garages, and high dynamic live-load floors.

The deep flutes accept through-deck welded shear studs directly to primary structural steel beams, creating exceptional composite beam stiffness and eliminating temporary support shoring over wide column grids.

Profile Depth 75 mm
Pitch Spacing 300 mm
Cover Width 900 mm
Thickness Range 0.80 mm – 1.50 mm

Dual-Action Composite Floor Behavior

Understanding the dual-stage performance of cold-formed profiled steel decking is vital for civil and structural engineers when reviewing span-to-depth ratios and deflection limits.

01

Stage 1: Wet Concrete & Construction Load

Prior to concrete curing, the bare profiled steel sheet acts independently as a structural formwork member carrying the entire construction burden.

  • Supports wet concrete weight, self-weight of the steel deck, and construction personnel.
  • Engineered deflection limits governed by BS 5950 (typically Span / 180 or max 20 mm).
  • Eliminates the cost, safety risks, and delays of erecting temporary falsework underneath.
02

Stage 2: Composite Slab In-Service Performance

Once the poured concrete reaches its 28-day characteristic compressive strength, the steel deck and hardened concrete behave as a single composite floor system.

  • Mechanical rib embossments prevent horizontal shear slip between the steel and concrete.
  • The profiled sheet acts as bottom tensile rebar, resisting positive sagging bending moments.
  • Complies with long-term live-load deflection criteria (Span / 350) and fire rating requirements.

Technical Questions on Decking Sheets

Answers to common questions raised by structural consultants, pre-engineered building (PEB) fabricators, and commercial contractors.

Decking sheets are corrugated steel structural profiles designed to support and reinforce concrete floor slabs. In steel-frame, precast, and composite building construction, they act as immediate safe working platforms and permanent formwork during the wet concrete pour. After the concrete cures, the steel deck acts compositely with the slab as tensile reinforcement, drastically cutting construction time, reducing dead load, and eliminating temporary wood shuttering.

The primary differences lie in rib depth, span capability, and concrete volume. The 45/150 mm profile (45 mm rib depth, 150 mm pitch) is designed for thinner concrete slabs and unpropped spans generally up to 2.8 meters. The 75/300 mm deep profile (75 mm rib depth, 300 mm pitch) provides substantially higher section modulus and moment capacity, allowing unpropped spans up to 4.2 meters and accommodating heavy industrial floor loading and larger shear connectors.

No, composite decking sheets do not replace the concrete slab; they form a composite slab system together with the concrete. However, they completely replace traditional plywood formwork and eliminate the need for primary bottom tensile steel rebar. Only light anti-crack wire mesh (or top rebar for negative moments over supports) is required in the slab topping.

During roll-forming, mechanical indentations (embossments) are cold-pressed into the web and flange profiles. When concrete is poured and cures around these embossments, it creates a mechanical interlock that prevents horizontal longitudinal slip and vertical separation between the steel profile and hardened concrete, ensuring the two materials act as a monolithic unit.
